Howard has grown into stardomDec. 3, 2007 – It was so easy to pick on John Weisbrod. After all, he was a hockey guy elevated to general manager by the Orlando Magic ownership after John Gabriel was fired. He was a no-nonsense type, strong in his convictions and was expected to clean things up. And he even had the good fortune to win the NBA draft lottery in 2004. So what does he do? He takes this skinny 6-foot-11 Georgia high school kid named Dwight Howard — with braces on his teeth and preaching religious harmony for the NBA instead of strapping 6-10 Emeka Okafor, the first team All-American from the NCAA champion Connecticut Huskies, who graduated in three years with a 3.95 grade-point average.
